WHAT:
Alianza Americas, as part of our mission to promote an inclusive, equitable and sustainable way of life for communities in North, Central and South America, has convened a panel of experts and investigative journalists from Northern Central America to give voice to the urgency of the climate crisis in that region and how it contributes to the internal and external migration of thousands of our sisters and brothers.
WHO, WHERE and WHEN:
Oscar Chacon, Alianza Americas Executive Director and Alianza Americas leadership along with investigative journalists from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador will hold briefings in Washington DC, May 6-10 to underscore the gravity of this nexus between the climate crisis and migration.
HOW:
The delegation will meet Congressional lawmakers and staff, US State Department diplomats, OAS human rights investigators, think tanks and DC based Universities to discuss the realities of vulnerable communities in Northern countries facing climate change compounded by corruption, inhumane capitalism, narcoterrorism and anti-democratic governmental and non-governmental forces. Experts will also discuss the importance of protecting journalists from economic and physical violence so they can continue to investigate and shed light on current conditions.
WHY: Upon completion of the tour, Alianza Americas will issue a new report offering recommendations to address this crisis.
