Chicago, IL - Today, as we reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, Alianza Americas stands in solidarity with immigrants across the nation and those on the move seeking safety and opportunity. Dr. King’s unwavering commitment to justice, equity, and human dignity inspires our continued fight for immigrant rights and reminds us of the power of collective action to create meaningful change.

Immigrants from Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond have long contributed to the cultural, social, and economic vitality of the United States. Our stories, culture, and worth as human beings are interwoven into the very foundation of this nation. As a network of Latin American and Caribbean immigrant-led organizations, we say loud and proud: immigrants are an integral component of this country, and they strengthen it with their vitality and unwavering belief in their hard work and a brighter future for all!

Our communities embody the power and perseverance that have propelled countless families forward despite systemic political, economic, environmental, and structural challenges. On this MLK day, in which a transition of power is taking place in the U.S., we honor his memory with our work toward racial justice. We understand that this is a long struggle, and we will continue working to build communities where diversity is valued.

We recognize that our fight is far from over. Together, we must continue to fight for our rights and liberties—for real pathways to seek asylum, resettle refugees, and offer humanitarian protections for those fleeing their countries of origin. We will defend people without regular status, DACA, and TPS holders and advocate for policies that address the root causes of migration with compassion and humanity. We stand with our immigrant families.

The path forward requires collective action, solidarity, and an unwavering commitment to justice. We know that we are not alone, and we will work with a wide array of actors.  On this day, we honor Dr. King’s legacy by renewing our pledge to advocate fearlessly for the dignity and well-being of immigrant communities.
