Chicago, IL – Trump’s address to Congress was not a renewal of the “American Dream”; it was a continued embrace of a white supremacist and xenophobic agenda. True greatness lies in the dignity of every individual, the pursuit of justice, and fostering opportunities for all to thrive. Attacking a number of communities, defunding essential government domestic and international programs, and prioritizing the interests of the wealthiest will only deepen the divides in our society.

As an oligarchy continues to grow stronger in the United States, we must not be distracted by the curated propaganda designed to demonize immigrant and transgender communities. “The United States of America’s greatest threat is not immigrants; it is the growing wealth inequality that has left families without access to healthcare, education, housing, and the opportunity to prosper,” stated Dulce Guzmán, Executive Director of Alianza Americas. “Trump's desire to use the budget reconciliation process to cut taxes for the richest in the country while funding the mass separation of families will not provide the relief this country desperately needs,” concluded Guzmán.

The address to Congress was filled with lies, misinformation, and false narratives meant to justify the devastating economic conditions Americans will experience due to this administration's trade policies, gutting of federal programs like social security and medicaid, and other dangerous budget priorities. “This is a moment to shift the narrative toward a future where all of us have access to the resources we need to thrive, where our families remain safe and united, and where prosperity is not reserved for the few but shared by all. That is the American Dream, not Trump's nightmare,” said Guzmán.

Alianza Americas calls for greater solidarity and unity  as we continue to fight for the dignity and rights of our diverse communities. Only by addressing systemic inequities, protecting our most vulnerable, and ensuring the wealthiest pay their fair share can we build a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable way of life for all.
