Building a better life, one step at a time

CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN HONDURAS NEED YOUR SUPPORT.

Nearly one in three young people in Honduras do not attend school or work, and fewer than one in four complete high school. Driven by a mix of factors including corruption, violence, a fissured economy, climate displacement, and more, the people of Honduras often have no other choice than to make the dangerous journey to seek opportunity, refuge, and stability in the United States. Watch our webinar on the realities of people in Honduars to learn more.

One of the organizations working tirelessly to address these disparities and provide the necessary conditions to live a dignified life is Paso a Paso—and Alianza Americas is thrilled to be partnering with the team to maximize our collective impact.

Through our new collaborative fundraising campaign—Building a Better Life, One Step at a Time—we are aiming to fundraise a total of $25,000 to support transnational collaborations that move us towards a better future.

Since 2002, Paso a Paso has supported children, adolescents, and their families by providing the necessary conditions to live a dignified life—such as an academic and comprehensive education, childcare for working parents, access to nutritious food and clean water, and much more. But the last two years have been particularly challenging. The COVID-19 pandemic and the two category four hurricanes, Eta and Iota, that took place at the end of 2020 are only some of the recent catastrophic events that have left communities across Honduras without access to the most essential resources.

For over 17 years, Alianza Americas has been working to build transnational coalitions that help address the structural inequities that continue to impact families in the region. Last year, we partnered with seven grassroots organizations, including Paso a Paso, to raise funds that supported their emergency response work in the aftermath of hurricanes Eta and Iota. As an organization rooted in a transnational vision, we believe the work of Paso a Paso is essential to empowering the next generation of democracy. Now more than ever your solidarity is needed to continue working towards a more equitable way of life for people in Honduras and throughout Latin America.

Supporters like you helped make this possible.

To serve the 175+ youth who visit their community grounds on a daily basis for food, clean water, and school supplies, the team at Paso a Paso make multiple trips a month to the store to ensure their resource bank—known as La Tiendita Solidaria (“The Solidarity Store”)—can meet their community’s needs. But without access to a car, running errands and keeping La Tiendita Solidaria stocked has been a huge challenge for the vital work of Paso a Paso.

You can help us change that.

By donating today, you are directly supporting:

  1. The purchase of a vehicle that will be used by Paso a Paso to keep La Tiendita Solidaria stocked with nutritious food and the staff equipped to help transport materials for the life-changing programs of the organization.
  2. Support the operations of Paso a Paso’s work.
  3. Strengthen the work of Alianza Americas as a convener and leader highlighting the role of inequities in the region and proposing community-led solutions to help address the root causes of migration.

As a network of more than 55+ immigrant-led organizations, Alianza Americas is uniquely positioned to mobilize hundreds of activists to support the work of organizations like Paso a Paso, who are showing up every day for Latin American communities in our home countries. As we continue to work towards a more equitable and sustainable way of life for Latin American immigrant communities in the region, we call on you to join our efforts and support organizations in Honduras like Paso a Paso.
