Chicago, IL — In the wake of the election of Donald Trump to the Presidency of the United States, Alianza Americas reaffirms its commitment to resist, accompany, and support immigrant families after a presidential campaign that installed fear and an anti-immigrant rhetoric that negates our contributions and demonizes our presence. Alianza Americas—a network of migrant-led organizations—calls on present and future government leaders to recognize the integral role of immigrants in the fabric of American life. Through solidarity and resilience, Alianza Americas will continue to champion immigrant communities' rights, well-being, and protection, urging institutions to uphold principles of justice and equity for all.

“The well-being of the United States is also the well-being of immigrant families. We are intertwined in one American society, economy, and culture. Racist and anti-immigrant discourse hurts us all. We call on political leaders to remember that we are an ever more racially diverse nation, as well as a nation of immigrants. Consequently, they should act responsibly in the face of this reality. The government must govern for all the people, not for a portion of them,” said Dulce Guzmán, Executive Director of Alianza Americas. “As organizations led by and at the service of migrants, we will continue supporting and accompanying immigrant families. Our bonds of love, solidarity, and shared dreams hold family unity. Our mixed-status families deserve protection.”

Alianza Americas will analyze carefully the election results and evaluate ways to continue working and protecting migrant families. Institutions will be essential to their defense. “U.S. institutions must prepare to uphold the rule of law. It will be critical to analyze the constitutionality and legality of measures undertaken by the incoming administration”, added Guadalupe de la Cruz, President of the Board of Directors of Alianza Americas.  “We call on all people not to rush into desperate actions. We will resist and find creative strategies to protect the unity of immigrant families. Fear-mongering is a tactic for which we must not fall. Let’s remember hope is a discipline.”
